‘Playing the
Line’ explores the transformation of the 1 minute sketch
into a series of major works.
The artist’s response and reaction to a
pose becomes the emphasis and foundation of the final work.
What starts as a quick pen and ink
sketch, is transformed and adapted. The strong, bold, linear
quality
dominates the overall look of all the works.
I have attempted to capture the dynamism and
energy of the 1 minute pose. The way an artist reacts,
feels and
interprets lively and active poses, is explored through the sketch and
then transformed into major works.
I try to stay true to the response,
the immediateness, the spontaneity and impulsiveness of the line which can
only
be achieved during a quick sketch.
The quick sketch is very often under
appreciated and over looked. I use the short cuts and the exaggerations
that one can only achieve during a quick 1
minute pose, and tried to accentuate them by making
that what my major work is about.
